Voćna salata sa chajotom // Fruit salad with chayote

(scroll down for English)

Fruit salad with chayote

Chayote or pear squash or vegetable pear is an edible plant from the same family of melons, cucumbers and squash. It originated in Mexico and Central America and it grows in abundance in Brazil, Costa Rica and other Latino American countries. If you ask me it has totally neutral taste (similar texture as pear but with no specific flavor). It is not only fruit that is edible but its root, stem, seed (rather softish) and leafs as well. Raw or cooked it is very rich in vitamin C. It is mostly used in salsas but I put mine in fruit salad.

Ingredients:
Fruits as you like
Chayote
Juice from 2 oranges
1 tbsp cinnemon
1 tbsp honey
Handful chopped mint

Preparation:
1. Wash all fruits, cut the in cubes, squeeze oranges and mix well with the rest of the ingredients.
2. Leave in the fridge for at least half an hour to chill.
